the laptop sessions, trois: not a good idea

this is prudence's new favorite spot: my laptop provided by the office. speaking of work, a memo went around yesterday asking that if any of the company's journalists (perhaps the title 'photo editor' is exempt) have personal blogs, we should make sure to state that our personal online musings in no way reflect the opinion of the magazine/website we work for. there, i typed it for all 6 of you readers to see. my 'prudie and rah!' postings will no longer get me in trouble professionally...but this shot of dear prudence just might...

NEW CATEGORY: show of the week: califone and iron and wine at the orpheum theatre: beautiful, except for the drunk boys sitting beside us who kept screaming "woo! rockenroll!!' at califone, until the lead singer retorted 'what?! we're not rock 'n' roll.'

when dogs cry

this is my neighbor's dog, ellie. i'm babysitting her right now while erika is running errands (thankfully, she takes care of my beasts when i'm out of town so i'm more than happy to return the favor). ellie had an accident at the dog park yesterday and had to get stitches. she keeps bumping into everything in my place because, even though my home is big for n.y.c., it's small for l.a.
animals in head cones: always hilarious!! every time she bumps, i laugh! hand-over-the-mouth-laugh (yes even though we bonded and i love her).

SHOW OF THE WEEK: benefit for kime buzzelli at the echo. very sweet benefit for a very sweet local shop owner who needs money for her medical bills.

it's morrissey's town, i just live in it

this picture may not look like anything to you, but it's a picture of my love morrissey that i took from the vip balcony at the palladium last night. whenever i've felt like something was amiss in me musically, i've always believed it was because i never got to see the smiths when i was in high school. well in the last six months i've been fortunate enough to see johnny marr play with modest mouse and last night morrissey in all of his glory and i feel like a new person! bonus points to my friend freddie at live nation who totally hooked us up with the vip stuff. every time i think of the room singing 'the last of the famous international playboys' and morrissey ripping off his shirt and throwing it into the crowd, a giant grin spreads across my face. now if only pavement would reunite...

if you insist on knowing my bliss

so, last sunday i'm driving past the hollywood bowl and i see that hall & oates are playing soon and i think "i would LOVE to see them!! who can i sucker into getting tickets with me?' well, the very next day, less than 24 hours later, i get a message from my young friend paul saying that he has one extra ticket to hall & oates and do i want it. you could have knocked me over with a feather! so i texted back HELLS YES! (to appeal to his 23-year-old sensibilities) and a very genuine THANK YOU!!

the show was last night and it was so much fun! i got to check off two major accomplishments at once: seeing hall & oates for the first time and going to the hollyowood bowl for the first time. they were playing so many hits i was getting confused over which one was my REAL favorite (it's a hard toss-up between 'i can't go for that.' 'maneater,' 'you make my dreams come true and 'say it isn't so'). there was a general hipster uproar at the end though because they didn't perform 'private eyes.' they didn't encore either and their finale was a cover of 'me and mrs. jones' which was all very suspect. regardless, it was an amazing night for me. hall & oates, i hope everything is ok with you two. was it because i ended up not buying the t-shirt that said 'maneater'?

cat in a dryer

tonight i almost shut the dryer door on 'dear prudence' because i didn't see her amidst all the other 'white' things going on in there...

what is she thinking (um, is she thinking)?

so i'm away all week and this is what i had available to leave you with until i can post again. when i return there should be some fun stuff from my trip to virginia and then on to brian's wedding in vermont. and if that's not enough for you to look forward to, by that time the intimate ryan adams show i attended last week should be online. i can't properly describe the dual feelings of ridiculous happiness/helpless fascination i felt for those few hours without the visual. hopefully all of his craziness won't be edited out of the online edition. i felt like a mouse trapped in his cat house and it was kind of alright (and now these pictures of prudie fully tie today's musings together!)...
